Press Conference: Uruguay on Uruguay v. Argentina Pulp Mills ICJ Case

The Advocates of Uruguay held a press conference Sunday evening on their recent oral arguments before the International Court of Justice in the case of Argentina v Uruguay: Pulp Mills on the River Uruguay. Representatives Chloe Buckley and Noah Pollio spoke on their substantive arguments, stating that Uruguay completed all required environmental reviews before the beginning of the construction of the mill. Buckley and Pollio also defended Uruguay’s good faith efforts to communicate their intentions to Argentina prior to the start of the building process, with sufficient time for Argentina to respond. The river Uruguay is an “economic and environmental resource” for Uruguay, as well as for Argentina.
