Times for ICJ Oral Arguments & Delivering Opinions
Learn about the court hearings happening in the International Court of Justice (ICJ)! The oral arguments as well as opinion delivery will be open to the public. There are three cases on the 2020 Court Docket: Obligation to Negotiate Access to the Pacific Ocean (Bolivia v. Chile); Legal Consequences of the Separation of the Chagos Archipelago from Mauritius in 1965 (Advisory Opinion: Marshall Islands; Mauritius; United Kingdom); and Armed Activities on the Territory of the Congo (Democratic Republic of the Congo v. Uganda). During oral arguments, the facts of the case will be laid out by Advocates for each country, with each party given a chance to address any contention with a rebuttal. Opening arguments conclude with the Justices asking multiple questions. Once the oral arguments have been completed, the Justices deliberate in a closed session and write Opinions. To hear the Justices decision on the case please attend the delivering of Opinion. Simply join the ICJ floor if you wish to attend. Attached below is the schedule that displays which parts of the Court hearings are open to the public:
