Press Conference: The United Kingdom and Spain on Moving Decolonization Forward to Achieve United Nations Goals

Representatives Sefcik of the United Kingdom and Maes of Spain from the General Assembly 4th Committee (Special Political and Decolonization) held a press conference to inform the international community that the United Kingdom is willingly transferring the rights to Gibraltar over to Spain to promote sovereignty in non-self governing territories. Representative Maes said, “Spain will give Gibraltar representation in the National Assembly and as such will be sort of ending Gibraltar’s status as a non-self-governing territory and integrating them into the Nation of Spain.” Spain is also looking to begin conversations, particularly in Western Sahara with Morocco, and working to resolve territorial disputes there.
