The Russian Federation’s Press Release on their Double Veto in the Security Council
The Russian Federation acted in good faith with all parties in the Security Council in recognition of the sanctity of human life and the goals of the charter. However, this good faith was not reciprocated. The first speaker on the topic in Ukraine actively encouraged rhetoric regarding military action from the security council. This required a response. As the Security Council was informed would happen, the Russian Federation prevented the body from setting limits on debate with the stated intention to speak about the issue for the remaining time in session. We chose not to prevent the topic from being addressed at all in an effort to support discussion of humanitarian aid under the purview of the UN. The Russian Federation would use this opportunity to highlight the importance of acting in good faith with one another on this international stage.
