Press Release: United Arab Emirates’ Statement on Yemeni Rebel Aggression
The United Arab Emirates strongly condemns the actions taken today by the Houthi rebels to launch missiles and strike Abu Dhabi. The missile strike damaged several warehouses and in conjunction with the previous attacks on our capitol signals a clear escalation from the terrorist organization. We have reason to believe the attack was carried out by the Houthis, with drone assistance from Alwiyat al-Waad al-Haq (AWH), a pro-Iranian Iraqi militia, and technical assistance from Hezbollah.
We see these these attacks on our capitol as signal of increased aggression in this conflict, and urge all parties to deeply consider the implications of violence and remind all parties of their obligation to adhere to international law. We encourage the government of Yemen and the Houthi rebels to sincerely participate in a discussion regarding cooperation and re-negotiations of a ceasefire to prevent further escalation. The UAE would strongly support working alongside the security council to consider a cease-fire and hope the rest of the body will join us in doing so. As this situation moves forward, the UAE still hopes that peace can be recovered in this tense situation, however, we will not ignore a blatant attack on our citizens and our nation. The UAE once again requests that the other members of the esteemed United Nations do as they have done before and join us in strongly condemning these hostile actions.
