Press Release: State of Palestine on Security Council Vote
“I represent the will of the American people.” These were the words uttered by the sole vote against the admittance of the State of Palestine into the United Nations as a Member State. “Our deep ties with Israel cannot justify us voting in favor of this resolution.” These words branded the United Nations Security Council, the highest governing body the world has ever seen, into one that endorses ringleaders like a circus full of clowns. I would be doing a disservice to the rest of the body if I did not come to their defense. With a vote of 13/1/1, the application for Palestinian membership status was denied. Setting a precedent, just as it has since 1967 and the Six-Day War, the United States was able to enjoy the powers and privileges of a P5 without actually abiding by the UN Charter which establishes the institution in the first place.
The State of Palestine has been beaten, bruised and broken for decades under Israeli settlements, war crimes and oppression. Self-determination is enshrined in the UN Charter; however, as it seems to me, it is nothing more than a laughable excuse for Zionist crocodile tears to drown the cries of Palestinian liberation. The State of Palestine applauds the efforts of the other Member States that support the fight for full recognition in the eyes of the global community. We will continue to advocate and fight for the security of every Palestinian, no matter the cost.
In light of the events that transpired, it is a dark day, but the UNSC and its members have the capability to become a beacon of what it really means to be human on this planet. The State of Palestine urges the United Nations writ large to strive and delegate on behalf of the rights of the Palestinian people and stay on the right side of history.
As Yasser Arafat said, “The victory march will continue until the Palestinian flag flies in Jerusalem and all of Palestine.”
