Malta applauds and congratulates the Security Council on recognizing the matter of urgency of the situation in Lebanon. Our peacekeepers are in great danger in South Lebanon. Moving to pass Resolution SC/1 is a recognition that the Council owes to our peacekeepers We further believe that Resolution SC/1 will give full support to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to protect civilians, especially women, children and the elderly who constitute the most vulnerable group in the region. With this, we would like to thank the Council for efficiently acting on the matter and encouraging further discussions between parties to come to a long-lasting peace agreement.
