Press Release: China on US Aggression in Iraq – HSC93
It is with a heavy heart that the Chinese Delegation must remind the world of the airstrikes carried out by the United States on Iraqi Military Defense structures located within its own borders. This strike wounded several soldiers and damaged millions of dollars worth of infrastructure in the nation. These US attacks in Iraq have killed five civilians and injured an additional seven. Iraqi sources estimate hundreds of billions of dollars in infrastructure damage having been caused by Coalition strikes. Roads, schools, oil wells and reserves are being damaged every single day by these airstrikes, and the lives of civilians are being uprooted on a daily basis. The Security Council assembled today must take a stand against this blatant abuse of human rights in Iraq. If the Security Council cannot find the courage to protect Iraqi civilians, China will look for solutions to support them themselves.
