Misinterpretation of Note Causes Confusion in GA Second

By: Ashley Lauren Wasik, Student Reporter*

After a miscommunication in note passing between Germany and Burkina Faso it seemed like bribery was at play. Luckily, everything has been straightened out.

Burkina Faso is a pro-nuclear energy state and seems to be the leading State in the African region. Germany is a non nuclear state and encourages any Member State, including Burkina Faso to also be non nuclear. Germany is willing to pay $315 billion, maybe more, to Burkina Faso and African Banks if they become a non nuclear state and find other renewable sources of energy.

Representative Ryun Hoffert of Burkina Faso said, “Burkina Faso originally interpreted Germany’s note as an attempt at bribery. Upon further discussion with the German delegation Burkina Faso has come to realize that bribery was not the intended message.”

It was later stated that this was not intended to be an act of bribery, but just a generous contribution. After talking through the miscommunication this did not cause any strain on the diplomatic relations between the two states. However, it is unlikely that Burkina Faso and Germany will work together only because of conflicting interests.
