The Israeli delegation was appalled and outraged tonight by the Security Council’s actions against the State of Israel. The recent resolution the body has passed regarding Israel’s security measures at the Blue Line in Lebanon is nothing short of a calculated attack on our sovereignty. Additionally, the Council made no effort to contact the Israeli delegation regarding this measure. We firmly believe that this exclusion is an insult to the very principles of diplomacy and fairness that the United Nations claims to uphold.

This resolution blatantly ignores the reality of the existential threats Israel faces daily from the hostile and illegitimate entities along its border. It also places unjust restrictions on Israel’s sovereign right to defend itself.

Hence, let us be crystal clear: Israel unequivocally rejects this resolution and all attempts to prevent us from exercising our right to self defense.

Furthermore, as if this betrayal were not enough, we have reports tonight that the Security Council is preparing yet another outrageous resolution targeting Israel. This draft resolution, filled with lies and distortions, falsely claims that Israel engages in “illegal settlements,” a term that we and our allies do not and have never recognized. Even more appallingly, this draft resolution seeks to further strip Israel of its most fundamental right: the right to self-defense. 

For these reasons, Israel has begun to reassess relations with the Security Council which has, through these actions, seemingly become nothing more than a vehicle for anti-semitic bias. In our eyes, it has forfeited any semblance of legitimacy as a neutral party. Israel will not stand by as its sovereignty is repeatedly attacked by a body that panders to and legitimizes terrorists.

In light of this hostile behavior, Israel has requested that its government bolster security along the Blue Line, ensuring that every necessary measure is taken to protect Israeli civilians.

With that said, we would like to cautiously thank the United States for its recent principled vote against Palestinian recognition, a much-needed reminder that some states still stand firm in their commitment to truth, justice and support for Israel. However, we urge the United States to take a much stronger stance against the lunacy that is clearly rampant in the council in its upcoming deliberations. 

Let this press release serve as a warning to all member states: relentless and unreasonable targeting of Israel will not bring peace, only greater instability.

The Israeli delegation calls on the Security Council and all other bodies of the United Nations to immediately cease its unjust and clearly biased campaigns against Israel and to focus on the real sources of conflict in the region: extremism and barbarism.
