[HSC-1961] Transcript from Fidel Castro’s Radio Broadcast:
[Castro’s response when United Kingdom offered to provide official endorsement and friendly relations with him after he ousted the US]
“The imperial West is up to its devilish ways again. Last week it sent one of its agents of evil to me offering to corrupt me and by extension you, my great nation, with money and talk of so-called “special friendship.” Yes, Comrades, the great Queen Elizabeth herself has asked to enter into a special friendship with Cuba and me. But we know what friendship with the West brings: not riches…. not freedom… but betrayal and slavery to their ways and their needs and their whims. It is no friendship and nothing that we want. And for those ears listening to me today doubting what I say, just look at the character of this request! Just last week I ejected the treacherous United States from our shores, a country with whom the United Kingdom assuredly already has one such special relationship with! Yet they trash that relationship for a chance at more money and exclusive trade deals. So, no, your Majesty, Cuba is great enough without you. Cuba is strong enough without your help. Cuba is prosperous enough without your special friendship!”
