How Home Government Can Aid You at Conference
Did you know that American Model United Nations (AMUN) has an entire department of researchers who are prepared to assist you throughout the Conference?
Roleplayer Requests:
At the request of the representatives or simulation directors (in Security Council simulations), a member of Home Government can act as a roleplayer to enhance the simulation. Roleplayers can represent, for example, a Member State not represented at the Conference, an expert from a non-governmental organization who can provide factual analysis, a representative of a group or faction involved in a conflict or a historical actor to provide perspective on past efforts to address an issue.
Briefing Requests:
Home Government Secretariat members can also provide informational briefings on the topics being addressed at AMUN. Briefings are designed to be a back and forth dialogue, they are useful in situations where you are likely to have follow up questions, such as if you switch committees at the last minute and are in need of a lot of information. To fulfill a briefing request, the Home Government staff member conducts the necessary research, but instead of sending a written reply via email, they meet with you and give a basic overview of the topic; this may include a brief overview of the country and its position on the topic, the issues under debate at the United Nations and recent trends. The briefing may also lay out various options for you to pursue in deliberations with other delegations.
Information Requests:
Home Government can also help you with any specific or targeted research questions you have while at Conference by answering information requests. Information requests can take different forms depending on your needs. For example, you may need to obtain a copy of a specific document or speech; you may need details about your state’s policy or recent actions; or you may be in search of technical topic-specific information, such as water filtration methods or how to remove landmines using primates.
To submit one of these requests, please approach your rapporteur or simulation director. Home Government hopes that you will take advantage of the services that we provide and we look forward to helping ensure that you have a fun and productive experience throughout AMUN this year.
