The General Assembly Third Committee switched into topic area 2 with a vote of 35 in favor, 26 opposed and 9 abstentions. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea began debate by noting the lack of policy in the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on the subject and requested the Committee consider creating a voluntary committee to address the African displacement problem at hand in any draft resolutions, keeping in mind the need to keep all of the information collected on the displaced peoples in one place. The Committee suspended to begin drafting resolutions. Monday morning the Committee passed draft resolution I/6 with a vote of 21 in favor, 10 opposed and 9 abstentions and began discussing draft resolution I/2.
