General Assembly First Committee  has adopted its first resolution! The body did a roll call vote to adopt Resolution 2/1 on Saturday afternoon. The Resolution passed with 45 in favor, 5 opposed, and 2 abstentions. Early drafts were met with much resistance, but as Alec Cochran, the representative from Ukraine, put it they, “wanted to hear everyone’s voice…. I commend every delegate who had input on the resolution.” The goal of the resolution is to call out and condemn militarization of space. It also creates a voluntary database where states can classify their satellites, if they so choose. The voluntary database was included in Amendment A to the resolution, which was adopted earlier the same day.
