Cooperation in Action, IAEA style
International Atomic Energy Agency
When a body choses to work in total cooperation, it’s a beautiful sight to behold. IAEA has come together on draft resolution 1/3 and every Member State has sponsored draft resolution 1/3. The draft resolution covers nuclear safety and security and funding both for developed and developing nations. The body even tried to change their limits on debate so they could fully debate the draft resolution and hear thoughts and concerns from all delegations.
While the body is deeply concerned with safety, security, and funding, Member States of IAEA also wish to highlight the importance of nuclear sustainability. The draft resolution takes particular note of “the importance of Member States’ ability to develop nuclear energy as a way to combat the effects of climate change.” During rights of explanation, Member States chose to highlight again the importance of sustainable disposal of nuclear waste.
This reporter is pleased to announce that IAEA has passed Resolution 1/3. Congratulations, IAEA.
